Following the mother's suggestion to the politicians - Lekeberg strengthens the protection against porn in schools

After the three-child mother Amanda Romell from Fjugesta last winter wrote a citizen proposal to introduce porn filters on Lekeberg municipality's digital platforms, the municipality has now listened.

The municipality has had a porn filter built into the firewall since before, but now before school starts, the protection has become stronger and also includes images and material from search engines.

- I wouldn't say we secured it, but we have strengthened even harder. The actors who work with such material develop and find ways through the filter, so we also need to be active and find new solutions, says Berth Falk, social democrat and chair of the Culture and Education Committee.

Berth Falk says he supports Amanda Romell's proposal and thinks it is a good initiative.

However, there is no porn filter on the library's computers, at least not for a while. Such a filter is technically more difficult to introduce, says Berth Falk. But the municipality's IT unit has been assigned the task of reviewing what the technical solution should look like.

- In libraries one should be able to search for information and then it becomes more difficult to limit. Obviously I want to exclude porn and violence, but technically it becomes more difficult.

- For example, if you search for anatomy there is a risk that you will find images or material that may be perceived as pornographic. Because anatomy is about bodies while the body is exposed to pornography, the boundary becomes delicate. Everything that shows skin is not pornographic, says Berth Falk.

Amanda Romell is positive that the municipality is strengthening the porn filter in the school, but she urges for further work.

- It is important not to let go of the issue but to raise it in school and in sexual education. You have to have a discussion about it, a filter is not enough.

She also wants other municipalities to take after Lekeberg.

- It seems complicated technically and then it is positive that you find a filter that works. It would be good if other municipalities hook on Lekeberg and that Lekeberg helps other municipalities because it seems to have been difficult with the technology.
