The safe area in Syria

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar has announced that the Joint Operations Center with the United States will start working with full capacity and start implementing the first phase of the field to establish a safe area in Syria.

Akar said in a statement during a tour of military units in the western Turkish province of Izmir on Saturday that the first joint sorties of helicopters (with the US side) are taking place today, and the destruction of sites and fortifications of militants in northeastern Syria.

On Turkish checkpoints in the area of ​​de-escalation in northwestern Syria, Akar said, "We will use our right to legitimate defense until the end, in case of any attack against our observation points or our presence in Idlib."

In the same context, the US Central Command said that the so-called SDF destroyed tunnels and fortifications built earlier in the vicinity of the Syrian-Turkish border, as part of the implementation of the Turkish-American agreement to establish a safe area east of the Euphrates.

She added that this came a day after a telephone conversation between the US Secretary of Defense and his Turkish counterpart to discuss security in northeastern Syria.

Syria's Kurds vowed to make every effort to make Washington and Ankara's efforts to establish a "safe zone" in northern Syria along the border with Turkey a success.
