Teddy Tamgho, world triple jump champion in 2013, announced Saturday that he was ending his career at age 30 after a career marked by many injuries.

The French, 6th all-time performer (18.04m, on August 18, 2013 in Moscow) and world record holder in the world (17.92m, March 6, 2011 in Paris), officialized the news on RMC Sport, in margin of the meeting Diamond League of Paris.

"I'm stopping my sporting career, it's time to put away the spikes and move on, to pass on, to be officially in the stands and to shout at the athletes rather than screaming at them. It's not a question of age or physics, it's really psychological, "he said.

Sacred world champion in 2013 in Moscow, Tamgho saw the rest of his career disrupted by serious injuries (fractures of the femur and ankle, rupture of the Achilles tendon), missing the Worlds-2011 and 2015 and the Olympic Games 2012 and 2016. Since 2016, he has tried several times to return to the competition but without ever finding his best level. He also donned the coach cap.

Off the slopes, Tamgho also hit the headlines in October 2011 by receiving twelve months suspension, including six suspended, and 5,000 euros fine, after a violent altercation Creps Boulouris. In June 2014, he was suspended for one year by the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) for three breaches of his localization requirements for doping controls in less than 18 months.
