A youth basketball coach was arrested by Peoria police in Arizona (USA) for allegedly committing sexual crimes against several girls he taught at different schools in the state, according to authorities.

The Police Department reported Saturday that four victims revealed to investigators that Holland Woods, 57, had sexually assaulted them in recent years and, according to reports, a victim was only 8 years old when the abuse began.

Peoria detectives said that all the victims are women and that the abuse dates back years ago and occurred throughout the Maricopa Valley.

Through a press release, the authorities indicated that the charges against Woods, also known as Mutt , are preliminary and can be modified.

The Police Department said four different victims presented themselves with "courage" and denounced that they had been sexually abused by Woods in recent years.

Some of the victims said that the abuse began when they were only 8 years old and continued for several years, they also added that the abuse included sexual intercourse.

Woods was arrested on Friday and authorities announced on Saturday that he faces 28 counts of sexual crimes, including child abuse, sexual conduct with minors, sexual assault, kidnapping and sex trafficking.

Investigators did not say how Woods knew his alleged victims and if they first met through his work as an AAU (The Association of American Universities) coach and personal basketball coach.

Police reported that Woods is one of the owners of "Underground Basketball," a nonprofit youth basketball training program, in which he trained hundreds of children in the region.
