Women's rights organizations regularly accuse President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of not fighting enough against feminicide and domestic violence.

The murder of a woman by her ex-husband, under the eyes of their daughter, caused a shock wave in Turkey Friday after the publication of a video of the last moments of the victim.

Killed in front of his daughter

Emine Bulut, 38, was killed Sunday by her ex-husband who stabbed her neck after an argument at a coffee shop in Kirikkale, in the center of the country, where they found themselves, according to Turkish media reports. The murder occurred under the eyes of their 10-year-old daughter.

A video of the last moments of the victim, published Friday, became viral on social networks. The #EmineBulut hashtag was the most shared on Twitter in the world Friday afternoon. It shows the victim craning his neck and shouting, "I do not want to die!" Beside her, her daughter pulls her mother by the sleeve of her blood-red shirt. "I beg you, Mom, do not die," she pleads. The video shocked Turkey, where many politicians and celebrities called for more action to combat violence against women.

Terrible. Despite the outrage of much of Turkish society, despite the alarming number of cases each year, these murders of women continue. # # EmineBulut kadıncinayetlerisonbulsunhttps: //t.co/elRo4Tngbc

Traumatized, the victim's daughter is followed by a team of psychologists, according to the Ministry of Social Affairs.

She would have "insulted" her husband

The Turkish government said it was following the investigation into the murder of Emine Bulut closely and would do everything to have the ex-husband sentenced to heavy prison terms. "What we want is for this killer to receive the most severe punishment," said presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin. To justify her action, the ex-husband told investigators that Emin Bulut, whom he divorced in 2015 and whom he had arranged to meet on Sunday, had "insulted him," according to Turkish media reports.

Women's rights organizations routinely accuse President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of not fighting enough against the killing of women and domestic violence. The association "We will stop feminicide" has recorded 214 murders of women in Turkey during the first six months of the year.
