Jan Brännvall and Ulf Bergström have long been involved in sports in Umeå, and together have written several debate articles and letters to politicians on the occasion of the deal the municipality entered into with the Thorengruppen. They believe the collaboration will cost Umeå too much money and wonder how the municipality will cope with future welfare challenges.

- External long contract rentals are bad finances, it is rarely the municipality makes any money. When you are in need of money, why do you make the most expensive alternative? Why make an alternative that ultimately costs four to five times as much as a soccer tent?

Did not get an answer

Jan Brännvall also asks why the municipality chooses to invest in several halls in view of the economic starting position.

- There has been no pronounced requirement for a new arena from the ground floor. The Recreation Board has not once had on its agenda to build a new indoor hall, but still it is now being built.

However, despite the diligent commitment, Jan Brännvall has been silent on the part of the authorities.

- They have not written a response to our debate articles, or questioned our factual information. We interpret it as not being able to shed what we write, but it is a silent confirmation that we are right.

Refers to the procurement department

Municipal Councilor Hans Lindberg (S) has only communicated with SVT's via sms. He does not answer the question if he is still stuck with the decision to rent from the Thorengruppen for 25 years. However, he writes:

“For many years, the Leisure Committee has worked with Thorén on the creation of football halls. We went out with a request for a procurement of football halls where a player made a tender.

Then it is the officials in the procurement department who are responsible for the procurement, and not elected representatives ”.
