PCF mayor of Avion, in the Pas-de-Calais, has issued an order to relocate the inhabitants of this tower in order to "guarantee the tenants' security".

The mayor PCF of Avion (Pas-de-Calais), Jean-Marc Tellier, took an order Friday to relocate the 40 tenants of a HLM tower referred to several times by acts of "serious vandalism", a- he told AFP, confirming information from La Voix du Nord .

Three fires threatening the safety of people

Due to the persistence of the disorders that have been going on for more than three months now, there is an urgent need for "measures to be taken to ensure public safety and the safety of tenants", of this tower which counts 72 dwellings in total distributed over 12 floors, can we read in the municipal decree from which the AFP obtained a copy. "The last three fires have seriously threatened the safety of people and property," adds the decree, which states that Friday "a major fire was again declared in the building, mobilizing once again many means of relief ".

To date, "we have had to deplore only significant material damage, but the risk of having to deplore wounded and even deaths are too high to let this situation continue". Thus, "within a period of thirty days, all tenants will have to be rehoused by all the social landlords and associations working for housing and intervening on the territory of the commune". Pending the evacuation, the social landlord, "Pas-de-Calais habitat", was required to take measures, including "to ensure permanent security with control and access limitation".

"A courageous and difficult decision", according to the lessor

After the fire Friday, "the inhabitants of the tower were terrorized, so today, many are relieved to be able to move, but for some, who have been living there for 40 years, that's for sure, you have to swallow the pill ... we can not say that they are happy, they are angry after what they lived, "said the mayor. "There are many possible projects for the future of this tower", but "there will be more housing," he said.

The rehousing decree taken by the mayor of Avion, "is a courageous and difficult decision, because it disrupts the daily life of inhabitants in a situation of extreme social fragility", but it is "justified by the need to protect tenants of the residence, "said the side of the social landlord" Pas-de-Calais habitat "in a statement.
