Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha-SRT) set the fastest lap in the first moto GP race in Great Britain on Friday at the Silverstone circuit (5.9km) ahead of Spaniard Marc Marquez (Honda).

The Frenchman, who is in his first season in MotoGP, was the only one to shoot in less than two minutes on the brand new circuit of the British circuit. In 1 min 59 sec 952 / 1000th he was close to 11 thousandths of the record of the absolute lap of the circuit established in 2017 by Marquez.

He was ahead of the five-time Spanish world champion, current leader of the championship, more than half a second in this session played in dry weather and covered.

The third is the Spaniard Maverick Vinales, despite a minor crash early in the session, on a Yamaha of the official team, ahead of his compatriot Alex Rins (Suzuki).

Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), winner of the previous GP of Austria and 2nd in the championship, is him 6th.

As for the other French, Johann Zarco (KTM) is 15th and Sylvain Guintoli (Suzuki) 20th after also falling.

A 2nd free practice session will take place at 15H10 (13H10 GMT) and Saturday qualifying.
