Macron accuses Bolsonaro of having "lied" about the climate, France opposes the EU-Mercosur agreement according to the Elysee

French President Emmanuel Macron believes that his Brazilian counterpart Jair Bolsonaro has "lied" about his commitments to the environment and announced Friday that under these conditions, France was opposed to the controversial free trade treaty EU-Mercosur, a the Presidency says.

"Given the attitude of Brazil in recent weeks, the President of the Republic can only note that President Bolsonaro lied to him at the Summit (G20, Ed) of Osaka," said the Elysee, estimating that "President Bolsonaro has decided not to respect his climate commitments nor to commit to biodiversity". "In these circumstances, France opposes the Mercosur agreement as it stands", continues the French presidency.
