In early November, in connection with the celebration of National Unity Day, Russians expect a long weekend. This was reported by the Federal Service for Labor and Employment.

“In connection with the Day of National Unity, Monday, November 4, will be non-working. Thus, the Russians will rest for three days: from November 2 to 4. In total, there will be 10 days off in November, ”RIA Novosti quotes the press service of the department.

National Unity Day has been celebrated since 2005. The holiday is timed to the liberation of Moscow from Polish interventionists in 1612. On this day, the troops of the second national militia Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky were able to storm China-town, shortly afterwards the Polish garrison capitulated in Moscow.

It is worth noting that after the Day of National Unity and until the end of the year there will be no additional days off related to the holidays. The next long weekend awaits the Russians in 2020.

The first long weekend in 2020 is waiting for the Russians at the very beginning of the year - the residents of the Russian Federation will rest from January 1 to 8. In February, three non-working days in a row - from the 22nd to the 24th - will be dedicated to the celebration of Defender of the Fatherland Day, and in March - International Women's Day.

In May, in connection with the Spring and Labor Day and Victory Day, Russians will rest twice longer than usual: from the 1st to the 5th, and then from the 9th to the 11th.

In the summer, a three-day weekend - from June 12 to 14 - will be connected with the Day of Russia. Finally, the fall will be a non-working day on Wednesday, November 4.

As a result, in 2020 248 working days and 118 days off are expected. In 2019, according to the production calendar, Russians rest 118 days (this number includes weekends and holidays) and work 247 days (moreover, six of them are reduced by one hour).

Transfer practice

In 2019, several holidays were also postponed due to the fact that they fell on non-working Saturdays and Sundays. So, the weekend of January 5 and 6 was postponed to May 2 and 3 (Thursday and Friday), in connection with which the Russians rested for five consecutive days. The draft resolution on the transfer was approved by the Russian tripartite commission for the regulation of social and labor relations in September 2018.

Interviewed RT experts then responded positively to this practice. Long May holidays allow residents of Russia to enjoy the warm weather, which is usually the case. already established by then in most regions of Russia. Such an opinion was expressed then by a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Sergey Vostretsov.

“I believe that this is absolutely the right decision, since it was not these two days off that fell on Saturday and Sunday. In most regions of Russia in May it is already quite warm, people are trying to go to the cottage, open the season, so that then every weekend they come there and already have fun with rest. Therefore, I believe that the decision is very reasonable, ”said the parliamentarian.

In addition, according to Vostretsov, an extra weekend does not affect work discipline, since there are rules provided for by law for this.

“It may not be very comfortable sometimes for employers, but for this there is always an opportunity for employers and employees to agree, because according to the Labor Code we have days off, if the employee leaves, they are paid twice”, the deputy emphasized.

In addition, the transfer of non-working days off from January to May contributes to the organization of family vacations. About this RT said the chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Valery Ryazansky.

“I believe that this is a well-established practice. And that reasonable transfer from January to May, in my opinion, is also a good combination of the opportunity for people to relax during the winter holidays with their children and in May. I mean that in May, quite long vacations are formed among children. This all reflects interest in organizing a joint family vacation, and, in my opinion, there are no drastic changes, ”he said.
