As a result, it (the cottage. - RT ) was completely flooded, the house was demolished, and at the time of the flood we were in an apartment in a five-story building. But even then they were very worried, since the water almost reached the third floor, two steps were not enough, ”the young man said.

The girl Sofya also told about what happened during the flood.

“At the time of the flood, I was visiting my grandmother, she only bought a two-story house. At the time of the flood, we were busy with ordinary activities. Water arrived very quickly, in about 30 minutes the garden was completely flooded. Now we live in a small house with ten of us, ”said Sofya.

She noted that she was very glad to visit the Russian capital, and she had wonderful impressions of the city tour.

“I saw the Kremlin for the first time, even my parents did not see it, I also saw beautiful places from the ship. It’s a very beautiful and wonderful city, ”Sophia emphasized.

Flood in the Irkutsk region

Flooding in the Irkutsk region began in late June. After heavy rains, the water level in the rivers quickly rose above a critical level. About 11 thousand houses in 109 settlements were affected by the flood, the most damage was caused to the cities of Nizhneudinsk and Tulun. Natural disaster led to the death of 25 people, seven more were missing. The second wave was less destructive, but exacerbated the already critical situation in the region. At the moment, in the Irkutsk region there are no flooded houses and important social facilities.

As calculated by the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Public Utilities of Russia, the total amount of flood damage amounted to 35 billion rubles. According to Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko, all 45 thousand people affected by the flood will be provided with housing by November 2020. Work will also be done to prevent new floods.

“The configuration of all the new defenses of Tulun will be quite complicated. It will lead to the fact that we are guaranteed to have protection based on the critical level that was in the last two floods, this is not seven, but 14 meters, ”explained the Governor of the Irkutsk Region Sergey Levchenko.

We add that over 3.7 thousand people and 800 pieces of equipment, including water and aviation, took part in eliminating the consequences of the flood in the Irkutsk region.

On the control of the head of state

In mid-July, Russian President Vladimir Putin personally visited the affected region. The head of state spoke with residents of the Irkutsk region who were affected by the disaster, and visited the center for temporary accommodation of victims.

After that, at the meeting following the visit to Tulun, the Russian leader criticized the work of officials and demanded that local authorities “exclude all swagger and rudeness” in relation to people affected by the disaster.

“Nobody needs these reports and check marks. Housing, engineering and social infrastructure should be quickly restored, ”Putin said.

According to the head of state, in September he will personally monitor the progress of reconstruction work in the Irkutsk region.

Later, the President received the families of flood victims in the Kremlin, he discussed housing issues after a massive flood and invited them to St. Petersburg for the main naval parade in honor of Russian Navy Day.
