Zelensky thanked Johnson for Britain’s position “in support of Ukraine in the light of recent statements about the possibility of Russia returning” to the G8.

“The impossibility of restoring Russia’s membership in the G7 was noted as long as it systematically violates international law and undermines European and world security,” the report said.

As indicated, the parties agreed that "in the context of the ongoing aggression of Russia in Ukraine, the occupation of Crimea and Russia's non-fulfillment of the Minsk agreements" it is impossible to talk about the return of Moscow to the international platform.

As noted, Johnson assured Zelensky that such a position would be shown during the G7 summit on August 24-26 in France.

Earlier Zelensky, speaking about the possibility of Russia joining the G7, said that the “return” of Crimea, the resolution of the situation in the Donbass and the release of Ukrainian sailors would be a serious signal to the world that Moscow was ready to “take its place on the agenda of high diplomacy again”.

On August 20, US President Donald Trump called for the return of Russia to the G8.

Later, French leader Emmanuel Macron called this perspective appropriate.

In early July, Russian President Vladimir Putin, commenting on calls to abide by the Minsk agreements, emphasized that one cannot always demand that Moscow implement these agreements in a part that does not depend on it at all.
