“The return of the occupied Crimea, the cessation of hostilities in the Donbass and the release of more than 100 political prisoners and Ukrainian sailors held by the Kremlin will be a real serious signal to the world that Russia is ready to take its place on the agenda of high diplomacy again,” Zelensky wrote.

Earlier, the French leader Emmanuel Macron called the appropriate prospect of Russia's return to the G8.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, commenting on this possibility, said that Russia was removed from the G8 format for "certain reasons." According to her, there is “an easy movement in the implementation of the Minsk process” in the Donbass.

US leader Donald Trump said he supported the return of the Russian side to this format.

Russia has repeatedly stressed that it is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine and acts as a mediator in resolving the situation.

Crimea became the Russian region after a referendum held in March 2014, in which most residents spoke out for reunification with Russia.
