Hundreds of unburied bodies and boxes with bone remains have been found in the cemetery of the Mallorcan municipality of Manacor, inside rooms that had not been open for years.

According to sources from the City of Manacor, two councilors of the current government team found the bodies by chance on a visit to the cemetery. They decided to open the rooms, for which they had to force the door with a lever, since nobody in the town hall had the keys.

According to the sources consulted, the cemetery official died two years ago and his successor never had the keys to these rooms.

The hypothesis that is being considered by the City Council is that both the bodies and the bone remains were deposited in these rooms following a reform of the cemetery in the early 80s. According to the session, the bodies could have been temporarily deposited there but for reasons that are unknown, never returned to their niches.

After the finding, the current officials of the City Council will inform the authorities and work to identify the bodies. In addition, from the City Council they have advanced that they will ask for "political responsibilities".

"It is a very sensitive issue for citizens and for the citizens of this municipality, who have their relatives buried in this cemetery, so from the mayor's office we ask for respect and prudence," they have expressed from the session.
