Every week, hundreds of grocery bags are distributed at the Pentecostal church in Skellefteå to people who have a hard time.

But now they think they want to try to take it to the next level and open a store.

- It's great for the environment too. The idea is that we take the waste and sell it cheaply in our store, says project manager Johan Eriksson.

Social stores already exist in Stockholm and Jönköping, among others. For example, grocery stores give out wrong orders, things that come over after big holidays or have short dates. Everyone can shop at low prices but those who can show that they have it really nicely get it even cheaper.

Want to open until the end of the year

Abiai Haji stands in the queue for this week's distribution of food bags. He is worried that the food will still be too expensive.

"It'll be fine, but if they open a store I hope they have the groceries left," he says.

But today's grocery bags are sprawling and must still be supplemented with a lot of other goods. It is better with a store with a larger assortment, project manager Johan Eriksson believes.

- The idea is that we will open until the end of the year, he says.
