Russia calls on the United States to "common sense" to contain arms
Acting Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said that the very existence of humanity is at stake in the further development of the dialogue with the United States on arms control.
During a speech at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Polyansky noted that the Russian side still does not lose faith that "common sense and the instinct of self-preservation among Western partners will prevail."
“After all, the very existence of humanity is at stake,” he said.
Also acting Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN said that Washington had long and deliberately violated the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF Treaty).
According to Polyansky, in connection with recent US actions, the extension of the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty in 2021 is under threat.
On August 19, the U.S. Department of Defense announced the test of a banned INF Treaty cruise missile.
