The family of Palestinian and Egyptian nationality Rami Shaath, the son of PLO executive committee member Nabil Shaath, confirmed that the Egyptian security authorities arrested him on July 5 and is still in detention without charge.

Celine's wife, Celine, said he was arrested from his Cairo residence and charged with "participating in the realization of the goals of a terrorist association," without explaining to lawyers assigned by his family to pursue his case on the charge and what the association was.

Celine, a French national who has been working in Egypt for seven years, told Al Jazeera Net that there was no material evidence of the charges against her husband, who has been offered more than a month and a half, and every 15 days, to the Public Prosecution for renewing his pre-trial detention. The charge is based on any facts.

Celine pointed out that Rami has been active in the recent period in drafting statements and participating in conferences opposed to the so-called deal of the century and Egypt's participation in the Bahrain conference, despite his work as coordinator of the Egyptian branch of the global campaign to boycott Israel and divestment and sanctions, known as the movement of boycott Israel (BDS) since Years without prosecution.

Deporting his wife for no reason
Celine said that the Egyptian authorities traveled to France the moment of the arrest of her husband, despite her legal presence in Egypt seven years ago, and tried repeatedly in all ways to know the reason for her deportation, but did not get a reason for this, saying that she had contacted her consulate in order to understand the Egyptian authorities , And didn't get any justification yet.

The wife of the activist Rami Shaath described his condition very badly, especially in the first month of his detention, because of his detention in a cell with a narrow space with a large number of other detainees, and was not allowed to sleep because of the tightness of the cell, which was changed after a month of detention to a larger cell where he can sleep, Only his first-class family is allowed to visit him every week for only 20 minutes.

Celine called through Al Jazeera Net to allow her to return to Egypt, and seeks through contacts made by France officially to be next to her husband in these difficult circumstances going through, and pursue his case legally.

Silence his voice opposed to normalization
Mahmoud Nawageh, General Coordinator of the Boycott Israel Movement, said that Rami's arrest came to silence his voice against the Egyptian government's policy regarding normalization with Israel, as well as Egypt's recent participation in the Bahrain conference, which is considered the economic part of the American "deal of the century."

In his interview with Al Jazeera Net, he did not accuse the Egyptian authorities of arresting Shaath in connection with his work in the boycott movement (BDS), because the charge against him is not yet clear, but if it proves that the Palestinian movement with global reach and through its international relations will conduct contacts to press Egyptian embassies in all countries of the world and the Egyptian government to release him.

Nawajah said that Rami Shaath is a Palestinian youth and political activist, anti-Zionist and anti-normalization by the Egyptian government with Israel.

He refused to discredit him
For his part, Shaath's family and friends said in a statement that Rami was born in Beirut in 1971, moved to live in Cairo in 1977, and devoted his life to defending Palestinian rights, freedom and justice in the region, and graduated from Cairo University, and then held a master's degree from King's College in London, and returned Cairo plays an active role in supporting his father Nabil Shaath's efforts to establish a Palestinian state.

However, due to the failure of the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, he retired from political activity, before returning to him in 2010 in the movement of democracy and social justice in Egypt, and then the popular uprising in 2011, and also participated in the founding of the boycott of Israel in Egypt in 2015, and continues to operate No prosecution.

The statement accused the Egyptian authorities of arbitrarily detaining him for his peaceful and legally peaceful activities in Egypt. He is accused in unfounded criminal cases, holding the Egyptian authorities responsible for his life, and refusing to discredit his reputation and his family and accusing him of belonging to terrorist groups.

Activists have created a Facebook page calling on the Egyptian security authorities to release Rami Shaath.
