The President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, the supreme arbiter in the event of a political crisis, will complete his consultation tour on Thursday 22 August at the end of the day. He will receive the delegation of the Democratic Party then that of the 5-star Movement (M5S).
Everything will depend on the response of the M5S to the proposal of the Democratic Party. For the Democratic Party, there is no question of renewing Giuseppe Conte as President of the Council. The page must be turned. This center-left party demands clear commitments in terms of loyalty to Europe and recognition of the centrality of parliament.
He wants a very clear change in the way of tackling the migration issue . A turning point in social and economic policy. In other words: more redistribution and investment. And he advocates a development policy respectful of the environment.

Some of its conditions should not cause any problems to the unclassifiable 5-star movement. But the M5S could focus on his wish for a new executive still chaired by Giuseppe Conte. We can not therefore rule out an early return to the ballot box.
