According to Polskie Radio, on Thursday, August 22, an unexpected severe storm passed over the Polish Tatras.

Lightning struck a chain along which tourists climb to the cross on top of Mount Giewont. Four people died, among them two children, dozens were injured.

It is noted that 89 victims who were slightly injured were sent to a hospital in the city of Zakopane.

The on-site rescue operation continues. Local authorities are awaiting the arrival in Zakopane of the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Moravecki.

According to PAP in the Slovak Western Tatras, a tourist from the Czech Republic died as a result of a lightning strike, his companion was seriously injured.

The Russian Embassy in Warsaw reported that no injured Russians had come to the Tatras.

“Information about the injured citizens of Russia has not yet been received,” RIA Novosti quoted the representative of the diplomatic mission.

It was previously reported that in Cuba, five people died from a lightning strike.
