San Francisco (dpa) - Apple's new top-of-the-line models will receive an additional ultra-wide-angle lens and the suffix "Pro" in autumn according to a media report.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, known for his pre-release iPhone hit rate, reiterated rumors that have been circulating for several weeks. The presentation of the new models is expected by September 10, after a notice has been found in a pre-release version of new software.
The improved camera system will also make possible new functions, wrote Bloomberg on. So all three cameras - medium focal length, telephoto lens and ultra-wide angle - should be triggered simultaneously in order to combine better photos. It should also improve the quality of the photos taken in low light - here Google had set new standards last fall with its Pixel 3. In the meantime, Samsung and Huawei, among others, followed suit with their flagship models. The quality of iPhone videos should be further improved and move closer to the professional cameras, it said.
The two new "Pro" models would externally largely retain the design of the current iPhones XS and XS Max, the financial service wrote. The FaceID sensor should be improved to allow the device to be unlocked from a wider angle than it is now - for example, when the iPhone is on the table. The successor of the cheaper model iPhone XR will now get a telephoto lens.
In addition, it will be possible in the future to charge the AirPods earphones in their case wirelessly on the back of the new iPhones, it said, citing informed persons. Samsung's competitor had introduced such a feature for its earphones in the spring with the Galaxy S10 - along with an ultra-wide-angle lens.
Furthermore, Apple wants to spend the cheaper version of its iPad tablets a larger screen and refresh the computer clock Apple Watch. For next year, the next generation of AirPods and a cheaper model of the networked loudspeaker HomePod are in the works.
