Summer is showing its best side again this weekend. The temperatures are between 25 and 30 degrees on Saturday and Sunday, according to weather forecasts from KNMI and Weerplaza, among others.
From Thursday the mercury will gradually increase and in Limburg the thermometer can already show 25 that day. On Friday, those values occur in more places in the country. Then there is still a weak variable wind, caused by a high-pressure area that lies directly above the Netherlands, says meteorologist Ben Langkamp of Weerplaza.
At the start of the weekend, this high-pressure area will move to southern Scandinavia and the wind will turn to the east. "In higher air layers, the wind will be more southeastern to southern, so that warm air flows from North Africa, via Eastern France, to the Netherlands via a small detour," he says.
At sea, the maxima are around 25 degrees and deeper inland between 26 and 29 degrees. In the southeast it can be 30 degrees this weekend. The chance of that is greatest with around 50 percent Sunday. Normally the temperatures in this period of the year are between 20 and 22 degrees.
It stays warm after the weekend
Summer heat continues even after the weekend. The chance of a tropical day (30 degrees or higher) is slightly smaller on Monday and Tuesday. "The chance of a regional heat wave is therefore at most 10 percent," says Langkamp.
The weather forecast for the end of the last week of August is still uncertain. Weerplaza believes that there is a realistic chance that it will remain warm in our country in the summer. Due to the presence of the high-pressure area, the chance of precipitation is in any case small, according to the weather service.
