He said this at a press conference following a meeting with Finnish leader Sauli Niinistö.

The President noted that Russia respects human rights and also respects the rights of its citizens. Putin emphasized that "the events in Moscow and the protests are not something unique for the world in general and for Europe in particular."

According to him, Russia is closely watching the protests in many capitals of Europe.

“And the events that take place there are of a much broader nature, also under political slogans, have rather serious consequences for the participants of these demonstrations,” the Russian head of state said.

He added that in the case of protests in Europe, "we are talking about a significant number of dead people, thousands of victims", including demonstrators and law enforcement officials.

Putin also said that unauthorized actions in Moscow are connected with the aggravation of the situation during the election campaign in the framework of the elections to the Moscow City Duma.
