Education Minister on the teacher shortage: "The working environment must be improved"
On Wednesday, Education Minister Anna Ekström (S) visited Uppsala. She commented on both the low teacher density and the lack of preschool teachers in the county.
- In the long term, there is only one way to solve the problems. It is to make the professions as attractive as possible and to ensure that those who are educated remain in their workplaces, says Anna Ekström (S)."The working environment must be improved"
SVT News Uppsala has this week reported that Uppsala County is in a bottom position regarding teacher density in the country and that the National Agency for Education warned that hundreds of new preschool teachers are needed by 2021. At the same time, the number of applicants for the education is decreasing.
- When I talk to teachers today, it is the work environment and time pressure that they highlight as the biggest problem, says Anna Ekström (S).
