President Trump talked about his rival, Samsung, to help Apple, the leading American company. The intention is to sideline Apple's claim that Samsung is benefiting from a tariff war between the two countries.

President Trump has vowed to help Apple. Apple's chief executive, Tim Cook, says it's hard because of his rival Samsung.

[Trump / President: Tim Cook says the problem is Apple's good competitor, Samsung, who is not paying tariffs to China. I want to help you with that problem in a short time.]

Apple products produced in China during the US-China tariff war and entering the United States will be subject to 10% tax starting next month.

Tim Cook complained about this and President Trump said he would review support.

Support is likely to be a exemption from time-term tariffs on Apple, but can't rule out penalties for Samsung.

[Trump / US President: Samsung is a Korean company. Apple is responsible for paying tariffs, but Samsung is unfair that Tim Cook is not.]

Sources say that most Samsung mobile phones exported to the United States are produced in Vietnam and India and are not subject to tariffs to China. So far, actions against Samsung have not been discussed.

Trump said yesterday (21) he was confused by his message, calling for Apple's withdrawal from China, and he should watch where Trump's whims are headed.
