Petronella Adde Dahl attends the preschool teacher program at Uppsala University for the third year. Since she began her studies, almost half of the students in her class have been hoping for and although she herself looks positively at her career choice, she also sees several concerns.

- Many people think that the work is heavy - and you can't do what you want, says Petronella Adde Dahl.

The reason for the educational loss - small high school students

According to Uppsala University, small upper secondary schools are the reason why fewer people choose to apply for preschool teacher education.

- This has a great impact on education. There are generally two categories of students seeking preschool teacher education - these are new students and nurses, says Anna Hagborg, education responsible preschool teacher program at Uppsala University.

University invests in childcare - will reduce dropouts

In Petronella Adde Dahl's class, almost half of the students have dropped out. And the university chooses to invest in childcare - which is believed to lead to more people choosing to stay in the profession.

- It is always risky for someone who comes directly from high school to university. When they come to practice, it may not be something that suits everyone. When it comes to child care, you can guarantee to a much greater extent that they remain in the profession, says Anna Hagborg.
