Clashes erupted between UAE-backed Transitional Council forces and pro-government special security forces in Abyan province in southern Yemen, after the transition deadline for special forces to hand over their camp.

Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani said in a tweet that the Transitional Council's security belt had surrounded the SS camp in the capital of Abyan province and demanded that the security forces responsible for the camp surrender.

He condemned the escalation, which he described as dangerous by the Transitional Council, and the efforts to blow up the situation in Abyan, and warned of what he called the persistence in these practices, which confirms the transitional Council in the coup against the legitimate government.

The escalation comes despite statements by a spokesman for the Saudi-Emirati alliance that the UAE-backed security belt forces began to evacuate government positions they had taken over in Aden, and that the coalition was working to complete the withdrawal of these forces.

The security and military formations of the Transitional Council took control a few days ago on state institutions, camps and security headquarters in the interim capital Aden.

Earlier on Monday, Reuters quoted three Yemeni sources that the refusal of the Transitional Council in southern Yemen to give up control of the port of Aden led to the postponement of a summit previously called by Riyadh, to discuss the restructuring of the Yemeni government, which was ousted by the Houthis.

The sources said that the inclusion of the Southern Transitional Council of the government is linked to its full withdrawal first and end the "coup", while the forces of the Council refused to withdraw.

Coalition raids
Meanwhile, local Yemeni sources said that the Saudi-Emirati coalition fighter raids on military positions in Sanaa late on Monday evening.

The sources added that the raids targeted Mount Attan (south of Sanaa), which included camps, including the headquarters of rocket brigades.

The Saudi-Emirati coalition said in a statement that its forces targeted and destroyed a number of "caves" intended to store ballistic missiles, drones and weapons belonging to the Houthis.

Since 2015, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have led an alliance carrying out military operations in Yemen in support of pro-government forces against the Houthis, who have controlled provinces including the capital Sanaa since 2014.
