2019-08-20T04:34:52.076Z

Hong Kong administration chief Carrie Lam announced the creation of a platform for a dialogue on crisis resolution. It is reported by the South Morning China Post.

However, Lam opposed the convening of a separate independent commission to investigate police actions during the riots. According to the head of the Hong Kong administration, it is enough to use the existing mechanism of the Independent Council for the consideration of complaints about police officers.

Earlier, the European Union called for urgent measures to de-escalate the protests in Hong Kong. In turn, China called on European diplomats to stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs.

In addition, the State Department also called on Beijing to maintain Hong Kong’s high autonomy and abandon the violent crackdown on protests.
