The Government indicates that the health alert for listeriosis of the meat of 'La Mechá' affects all of Spain

The Minister of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare, María Luisa Carcedo, said Tuesday that it is "very sterile" to accuse the Government of not having declared a national health alert for listeriosis after the cases detected in Andalusia and Extremadura, since "it is declared since day 16 ".

In an interview with the Chain Being picked up by Servimedia, Carcedo made this point to the "controversy" that has arisen in the last hours about whether the Central Executive should issue an alert at the national level and if it was taking time to do so when he was on vacation.

Carcedo said there is "confusion" with this issue because at the national level "the alert is already established" from the moment in which the Junta de Andalucía informed all other communities of the crisis declared in their region and the risk of will move to other communities.

The minister said that the national alert "is activated at the moment in which a community communicates an outbreak and there is a suspicion that it will spread" to the rest of the communities.

Carcedo said that "it makes no sense" and it is "very sterile" to accuse the Government of Spain of not having declared a national health alert because all communities are alerted in "a double network, food and health."

He also stressed that the risk of infection has disappeared because "all the manufacturing batches of this company have been removed since May" to prevent others from acquiring listeriosis and the factory "is closed and all items are immobilized."

In Andalusia 80 cases have been confirmed: 66 in Seville , five in Huelva , and three in Malaga , Cádiz and Granada , of which 56 are hospitalized. There is also a confirmed case in Extremadura that consumed meat in Andalusia.
