At the bottom of the ranking of Unef, published Tuesday, are the cities of Saint-Etienne, Brest, Le Mans, Poitiers and Limoges.

This is not a surprise: Paris is the most expensive city in France for students, according to a ranking of Unef published Tuesday *, before the start of the season. The student union says that the monthly expenses for a student in the capital reached 1.288 euros, 140 euros more than Nanterre, second in the ranking, and 200 euros more than Créteil, third.

The first provincial city is 10th

The first nine cities in the ranking are located in Île-de-France, proof of the high cost of living for students in the Paris area, even outside the capital. The first provincial city is Nice, 10th, with 1,002 euros of average expenditure per month. Limoges, preceded by Saint-Etienne, Brest, Le Mans and Poitiers, closes this ranking of the 42 largest French university cities.

Rents climb in Bordeaux

Of these 42 cities, the biggest increases in the cost of living compared to 2018 are observed in Paris (+ 4.29%), Mulhouse (+ 4.32%), Nanterre (+ 4.44%), Évry ( 5.44%), but especially in Bordeaux (+ 7.41%). In the Girondine city, this increase is mainly due to rents prices, up sharply (+ 11.07%).
