127 of the 280 municipalities that responded to the survey estimate that they have a deficit on special housing for the elderly. There are 11 municipalities more than last year.

The number of municipalities who responded that they have a balance in the housing market for the elderly who need special support has decreased by 9 municipalities compared to last year.

Forecasts in the future look different in the country. Many municipalities are building, or planning to build, new housing for elderly and dementia in the coming years. Sixty-four percent of the municipalities who respond say that the need for special housing for the elderly will be covered in two years, while 71 percent say that the need will be covered in five years.

The smaller municipalities are building the most

It is the smaller municipalities that plan to build the newest. The municipalities with less than 25,000 inhabitants account for the highest figure, both in terms of the number of planned dwellings and the number of dwellings in relation to the population. There, 1,800 new places are planned for special housing for the elderly over the next two years. In Greater Stockholm, this figure is 1,200 housing units, 700 in Greater Gothenburg and in Stormalmö is planned for 200 newly built housing units.
