Lidköping Municipality aims to become 45,000 inhabitants by the year 2035. Now the municipality has come a long way. In Statistics Sweden's latest statistics, the municipality passed 40,000 inhabitants. The latest population figure for the municipality is now 40 127 people, an increase of 139 from April.

While 300 people moved out of the municipality this summer, 404 have moved in. Above all, people from Västra Götaland and the rest of Sweden have moved to the municipality. About 50 people have moved to Lidköping from abroad.

Deficits on men

Less cheerful figures include Skara, Mellerud, Gullspång and Färgelanda. Together with five other municipalities, they have had a negative population increase in recent months. This means that the emigration and death rates are greater than the immigration and birth rates.

In Sweden, there are a total of over 60,000 more men than women. Of the West Swedish municipalities, only twelve have had the largest proportion of women among the immigrants. Vara has the largest share of female new residents, with 55 per cent of the new residents in the last quarter being women.
