After 18 days of stalemate, we continue to look for a solution for the 107 migrants still aboard the Open Arms ship blocked at anchor in front of the coasts of Lampedusa. "If indeed an agreement has been found, it is essential that Italy and Spain assume the responsibility of guaranteeing, by making available all the necessary means, that these people finally land in a safe haven". The Open Arms says this referring to the possibility of a landing in Mallorca, in Spain.

The NGO: "Inhuman situation, unacceptable"
"Spain and Italy finally take responsibility for providing assistance and a safe haven for the 107 people on board our ship". Thus in a note the Spanish NGO. "Now, after 18 days of stalemate, Italy and Spain seem to have finally found an agreement, identifying Mallorca as a port of landing, a decision that seems completely incomprehensible to us. With our boat 800 meters from the coast of Lampedusa, European states are asking a small NGO like ours to deal with 590 miles and 3 days of navigation, in adverse weather conditions, with 107 people exhausted on board and 19 volunteers and very proven volunteers who for more than 24 days have been trying to guarantee those rights that 'Europe denies'. "If indeed an agreement has been found - the note continues - it is essential that Italy and Spain assume the responsibility of guaranteeing, by making available all the necessary means, that these people finally land in a safe harbor. It is urgent to put an end immediately to this unacceptable inhuman situation that the people we saved at sea are forced to live in. The Open Arms has fulfilled its duty to protect human rights and to respect international conventions and will continue to do its job until a real solution will be found ".

The Spanish Balearic offer
After the refusal of the Open Arms ship to head to Algeciras, offered as a landing place by the Spanish government, Madrid proposed to the ship of the NGO, "the nearest port", that is Mahon, on the island of Minorca (Balearic Islands). Mahon is located almost 1,000 km from Lampedusa. Open Arms said it had refused Algeciras because of the situation on board, with migrants at a standstill that they would not be able to sustain such a long journey.

Oscar Camps: Algeciras I take too far
"After 26 days of mission, 17 waiting with 134 people on board, a court order in favor and 6 countries willing to host, want us to sail for 950 miles, about 5 more days, towards Algeciras, the furthest port of the Mediterranean, with an unsustainable situation on board? " Thus Oscar Camps, founder of the NGO Proactiva Open Arms, on Twitter indirectly addresses the Spanish prime minister who offered a safe haven near Gibraltar.

Después de 26 días de misión, 17 de espera with 134 persons on board, a resolución judicial a favor y 6 países dispuestos acoger, ¿quiere que naveguemos 950 millas, unos 5 días más, in Algeciras, el puerto más lejano del Mediterraneo, with an insostenible situación on board? pic.twitter.com/0wTh16VZhj

Salvini: Open Arms rejects Spain, unacceptable
"The Spanish NGO refuses the port offered by Spain! Incredible and unacceptable, they organize tourist cruises and decide where to land ??? I do not give up, Italy is no longer the refugee camp of Europe", the minister of 'Indoor.

After offer Spain, from pm stop to decisions
"The offer of a safe port by the Spanish authorities puts a halt to the investigation activity in progress". They report it from the Agrigento Public Prosecutor who ordered a health inspection on the Open Arms and the acquisition of documents from the Interior Ministry. In essence, the prosecutor does not seem willing to adopt any provision, pending developments in the situation after Spain's offer.

No appeal filed with the State Council
As far as we learn "no appeal has so far been filed" with the State Council against the ruling of the TAR of Lazio that has canceled the ban on landing for the Open Arms vessel. Palazzo Spada does not therefore confirm the news of a decision expected for today.

New landings in Lampedusa
After a new landing in the night on Lampedusa - a small boat with sixteen migrants was blocked by the Guardia di Finanza and accompanied to the Favarolo pier - the arrivals continue today: a small boat with 37 people on board has just arrived on the island. The migrants, whose nationality is not yet clear, were rescued by a Guardia di Finanza patrol boat. Always landed on Favaloro pier, they will be transferred to the reception center in the Imbriacola district.
