Since then, an infected debate on the school issue has been going on in the municipality and a referendum on a possible large school was held.

Today, just over three and a half years after the fire, the demolition work has started and is expected to last for a month. Thereafter, construction of the new Götetorps school will commence. A school that can accommodate 350 students and is fully equipped with gymnasium, craft hall and kitchen. The first classes are expected to be able to move into the new school in the autumn term of 2021.

Tonight, the local council is expected to grant investment grants for the construction of the new school of SEK 179 million.

- We hope not to have to spend all the money allocated. But sure - it costs a lot to get good schools, says Mattias Joelsson (KD).
