The Iranian oil tanker, at the center of a diplomatic crisis that Gibraltar has been holding for weeks, sailed on the evening of Sunday, August 18 after British territory rejected a new US request to seize the ship.

According to the Marine Traffic Marine Traffic Monitoring website, the tanker that had been immobilized since 4 July off the coast of Gibraltar, weighed anchor in the evening and sailed south. The Gibraltar authorities have not confirmed his departure.

Name change

Renamed Adrian Darya, this tanker whose Iranian flag floated on Sunday at its stern, previously sailed under Panamanian flag. It was named Grace 1.

According to a statement, the authorities of the "Rock" refused the seizure requested by Washington in application of sanctions provided for by an American law. "Under European law, Gibraltar is unable to provide the assistance requested by the United States," they said.

This is the second time British territory has rejected a request for US assistance in this crisis between Washington, Tehran and London.
