The disaster occurred in Kyambura, a town in Rubirizi district, in the west of the country, not far from the Congolese border.
Out of control, the tanker hit three vehicles, which caused several explosions and the burning of 25 stalls, according to Martial Tumusiime, spokesman of the regional police, joined by AFP. Ten people died instantly. Nine wounded later succumbed to their injuries.
We do not know the total number of wounded. " There are several hospitalized people who are seriously burned and the doctors take care of them, " said the spokesman.
Precedents
Six years ago, the country had a similar tragedy. Thirty-three people were killed in Kampala in the explosion of a tanker truck. In the same region, another disaster of the same type had killed 70 people in 2002.
