According to Gibraltar Chronicle, the United States tried to seize the ship in connection with sanctions against Iran.
“The regime of EU sanctions against Iran is fundamentally different from the US regime,” the Gibraltar government noted.
In addition, they specified that the IRGC is not recognized by Gibraltar, the UK or the EU as a terrorist organization.
Earlier, the Federal District Court of the District of Columbia in the United States issued an arrest warrant for the Iranian tanker Grace 1.
On July 4, Royal Marines of the United Kingdom detained Grace 1 off the coast of Gibraltar due to the ship allegedly delivering oil to Syria.
The authorities later received official written assurances from the Iranian government that the ship would not unload its cargo in Syria, after which it was released.
