Ulvön on the High Coast south of Örnsköldsvik is a popular tourist destination in the summer. The man was paddling in company with a woman as their canoe edged in heavy winds and high waves at half past three in the afternoon.
Only the woman managed to land, and after she alerted for help, a search warrant began. After an hour it was announced that the man had been found in the water. He then showed no signs of life and was flown by helicopter to Örnsköldsvik Hospital, but his life could not be saved.
The man was a resident of Västernorrland County. The police have informed relatives during the evening.
