Andy Murray will not participate in the US Open doubles to "devote all his energy" to return to his best level in singles, he revealed Friday.

"I'm not going to play doubles at the US Open - my goal is to get back to the level I want in singles and I've decided to put all my energy into it right now," said the Scotsman in an interview given to the BBC.

"The US Open, in doubles or mixed, can slow things down for a few weeks, I want matches (in singles) and that's what I need now," insisted the one who made his comeback in at the beginning of the week in Cincinnati.

The Brit had been beaten in two sets by Richard Gasquet, before announcing he would not take part in the US Open singles. He will, however, participate in the ATP 250 tournament Winston-Salem from Sunday.

"I have to focus on singles, there are not many tournaments by the end of the year, so if I'm successful in Winston-Salem, I would know that my level is good enough and that I am ready to win matches on the circuit but, if it is not the case, it will then be logical to go down one level and maybe to play some small tournaments, "said the 32-year-old. .

By the end of January, Muray had undergone a second hip surgery and hinted that his career was over. He had nevertheless made a comeback in doubles competition, notably winning the Queen's grass tournament, associated with Spain's Feliciano Lopez.
