North Korea fired on Friday two "unidentified projectiles" that fell at sea, said the joint staff of South Korea.
The staff reported that the projectiles were fired from near Tongchon, a town in South Korea's Kangwon Province, and fell into the eastern sea. also called the Sea of Japan.
"The army is watching the situation in case there are other launches," the South Korean staff added.
This is the sixth such launch since the end of July. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said in early August that the shooting was "a solemn warning" to North Korea and the United States because of joint military maneuvers by both countries, which Pyongyang condemns.
The Commission for the Pacific Reunification of the Country, an institution of North Korean power, announced Friday in a statement that it rejected statements made Thursday by South Korean President Moon Jae-in.
In a speech on the occasion of the anniversary of Korea's liberation from the Japanese Occupation (1910-1945), Mr. Moon declared that his goal was "to achieve peace and unification of here 2045 ", although the unique presidential mandate to which he was elected ends in 2022.
The North Korean statement accused Seoul of being responsible for the current freeze on inter-Korean talks and the non-implementation of "the historic declaration of Panmunjom".
This statement was adopted during an impromptu meeting of Mr. Kim with US President Donald Trump in Panmunjom, in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that separates the two Koreas. The two men then decided the next resumption of talks on the North Korean nuclear arsenal, but this announcement has not materialized so far.
North Korea has ruled out in the statement released Friday an upcoming resumption of talks with South Korea. "We have nothing to discuss with the South Korean authorities and we have no intention of meeting again with them," the document says.
