“On this trip, the Chancellor wants to express his appreciation for the special contribution that Hungary made to complete the liberation and reunification of Germany,” RIA Novosti quotes Seibert.

In Hungary, Merkel will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orban on August 19.

The next day, the German Chancellor will fly to Iceland, where he will take part in the Nordic Council with the participation of the heads of government of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The meeting, according to Seibert, will be devoted to climate change and the Arctic.

In December 2018, Merkel in her New Year’s address called the issue of climate change crucial, and noted that in the new year, Germany needs to take more responsibility on international issues.
