57-year-old Alain Robert states that his campaign is a call for peace and discussion between the protesters and the Hong Kong government.

“Maybe I can lower the temperature and elicit a smile. That's what I hope for, "says Alain Robert in a statement according to the BBC.

The skyscraper is owned by billionaire Li Ka-Shing. He recently paid for ads in a local newspaper, with the text "love Hong Kong, love China, love yourself", reports the SCMP.

Not the first time

The French climber has climbed several famous buildings around the world, including the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Opera House in Sydney and Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

A little more than a year ago, he was banned from climbing on more buildings in Hong Kong for 365 days, for a building climbing he conducted in 2011 to pay attention to global warming. Then he said he would be back in a year, and on Friday he kept his promise.

Long-standing protests

In recent months, massive protests have taken place in Hong Kong, several of which have led to violence between protesters and police. On two occasions a week, Hong Kong Airport canceled all departures due to protests at the airport.

The demonstrations include, among other things, a much-discussed legislative proposal, and what you mean is overwhelmed by the police. The police have on several occasions fired tear gas at the protesters.
