According to a survey conducted by Ekot with eleven municipalities in Västerbotten, according to P4 Västerbotten, five have a teacher shortage. This applies to Lycksele, Norsjö, Skellefteå, Vännäs and Dorotea.

In Dorotea, all teachers at the lower secondary level are competent, while at the middle and upper secondary level there are several missing.

- We have competent teachers in Swedish and English, but when it comes to modern languages it is difficult to fill up. We do not have any qualifications right now, ”says Jenny Lindman, Head of School Dorotea Municipality.

Dorotea has two sports teachers who share in the service and neither of them have the right at present. However, both are in education so in the near future, that issue will be resolved.

"Not enough people are trained"

Jenny Lindman thinks that the teacher shortage is due to several different factors. One of these is that there is too little education.

- We already know that if you look many years ahead, we will not be able to recruit teachers via the teacher's college.

On the other hand, the headmaster thinks that there are many people who are now educating themselves as preschool and primary school teachers.

- If they complete their education and stay here, we are well on that front.

Umeå, Vindeln, Vilhelmina and Åsele did not participate in the survey.
