Six shootings in Västerås since April this year - all in different areas: Bäckby, Centrum, Gryta, Vallby, Bjurhovda and Hammarby.

When SVT Västmanland went out to talk to residents in the various districts, most did not want to be included in the picture, but said they were not affected by the shootings. Several said that they have been affected.

- I am one of those who feel more insecure. After the shooting here, I've bought surveillance cameras and I'm careful when I go out in the evening, says Haval Ghorghi.

"The municipality may not change at once but in the long term"

The municipal council's chairman Anders Teljebäck (S) says that basically, law enforcement is a police issue but that the municipality can work preventively.

- Above all, we work in the residential areas and we want to make sure that we strengthen our security work and our social efforts and make sure we have a presence. We have made a decision to move 100 services from the City Hall to our residential areas and to see the efforts we make, we spend almost SEK 90 million on prevention in the city of Västerås, that they are coordinated with associations and civil society. And make sure we get a strong joint security job.

Elisabeth Unell (M) also believes it is important to manage insecurity.

- Summer shoots are yet another proof that we must take new and additional measures And that immediately.

When it comes to collaboration, she has suggestions on what she would like to see to provide greater conditions for a safe city.

- These include, for example, camera surveillance, security guards, a 24-hour guarantee in which custodians are contacted when youth are suspected of crime, look at lighting, safety app, flexible stop with the night bus, investigate the possibility of setting up a security center and in various ways facilitate the police work.
