The dancer from Cádiz has been flying the flamenco flag all over the world for more than two decades. On the cusp of fame, he takes advantage of his pull to help families with daughters suffering from rare diseases. His smile betrays her. Always see the bottle half full.

Why do you dance? It's my life. Since I was very little, my mother taught me to love the world of flamenco, to respect it, to love it and to live that way. I don't know my life without dancing. Flamenco times as a party for young men have passed. Yes. When Unesco declared Flamenco Intangible Heritage of Humanity, I thought it should be dedicated to all the artists who have lived through that era of flamenco, which has nothing to do with it now. They fought, left their soul and insisted their whole being in proving that it is a great art. Although in those parties and in that special environment, a beastly magic was created, also because there were beastly artists. My generation highly values the contrast of moving from that flamenco of gentlemen to what it is today. It was achieved thanks to Paco de Lucía, Morente, Camarón, Carmen Amaya ... They placed flamenco on another level. How can this art evolve? Purists want to keep it almost in a bubble, away from all 'contagion'. The evolution of flamenco is very important because it goes with life. Flamenco is an art that is alive, they are not mathematics. Without heart it is not worth; If you don't get carried away by what you feel, there is no flamenco. How to evolve Like life, trying to respect teachers and tradition, but trying to contribute what you are, without distorting anything. Your own personality already makes it different. In flamenco there is a range of possibilities, of sticks, of colors, of styles ... that makes the evolution clearer. I am in favor of quality and respect. What is flamenco? For me, it is an attitude, a way of feeling and being, a way of life, with a beastly wealth, both of music and dance. It is a very difficult art if you want to make it big and it has nothing to do with there being places where you can live it in every corner. It is an art that sticks in your heart and you don't need to know anything, just let yourself go. The person who does not know about painting, but stands in front of a wonderful painting, likes it; Well, the same thing. How can one distinguish the good from the bad? The quality flamenco is very different from the one that does not have it. There are arts that do not, that the most mediocre or bad part does not harm, but in flamenco it does harm because it is a very delicate art. It has a very wide range to show your personality and there are audiences and artists for everything, but there is a line that, when you pass it, ceases to be a great art.And if that line is crossed, flamenco is harmed, despite of all the strength he has. It is wonderful that everyone can sing, dance and enjoy it, but you have to differentiate a party from the serious. It has toured the best stages in the world. How is Spain different? When you have passion with your own is not objective. The color, the feeling, the breeze of this land ... is different from everything. It is wonderful that flamenco art can be shared with all kinds of people; No matter the language or customs. Flamenco is very Spanish and represents it very well. I am Spain brand and I feel very proud, but I was already since I was a child; he presumed that wherever we went they wanted us. Is flamenco more valued outside of Spain? By the public, no. I owe everything to the public; Well, to my mother and the public. The Spanish public is incredible and outside too. Do the administrations have spoiled this art or do they miss the aid? You think that if flamenco were from another country, it would be much more paid. It is a shame, because it is an art that is in the whole world and is ours. And I don't talk about the public because it's wonderful and I can't feel more affection and thanks to him. But I would love that my son could go to a theater and watch a flamenco show with his school, as happened in New York, where 2,000 children from public schools have come to see our show. Why don't we have that? Notice that there are schools in New York that do, but not those in Seville, Cádiz or Bilbao. It is sad that this type of initiative does not arise with an art that is so ours and so important. How does this eternal conflict between the right and the left, nationalisms ... As a character of culture and as a dancer, I try Be as far as possible from politics. I want to respect myself and my art so as not to position myself. Then, as a citizen, I have my opinion and vote to whom I vote, and things that happen seem to me a horror or a wonder, that is, that an artist should not be defined politically. I don't like it, I respect who does it, but that Respect me if I don't want to do it. The political class is very discredited by corruption cases. That's why it excites you more when you go to another country and, from the stage, you hear them live Spain! It is such a beautiful thing. In the theater of a city very close to Warsaw, the consul told us: 'Sara, this is so important'. The Spaniards who came to the show left so proud. And it is artists and athletes like Nadal who project abroad an image of Spain that has nothing to do with that of some terrible examples of politicians. Of course, when Nadal wins ... is that Spain is a wonder country! It is a pride. I do not know what to do because if I knew, I would not be dancing, but they give you more satisfaction the beautiful things of Spain, as happens now with the chefs and gastronomy, with Ángel León or Ferran Adrià ... what a pride, God my own! And it also happens with art and music. Spain is wonderful, although there is some facet a bit ugly. The Andalusian anthem says 'Andalusian, get up, ask for land and freedom'. Is it still in force? Each one in life has a road and mine is to get the beauty of my land. The inspiration he gives me serves to mount shows almost until I die, because it is a land with a breeze, a grace, a naturalness ... I am very lucky because I work in something that I love and, within the world of art, My land helps me to express myself more truthfully. I have the freedom to choose the path and I can dance crying for something very sad or smiling for something very cheerful. I like to be on the positive side, even if I fight and defend serious honest work and sacrifice. He has 22 years with his company. How hard is it to stay? Yes, I feel very proud of the company. My technical director has been 22 years, other bailaoras over 16 years ... it's a lifetime. It is a responsibility because there are many families in your care. But I'm very lucky because my professional life is incredibly beautiful. I see classmates who are very good and are dedicated to something else. The dancer Israel Galván says that if the flamenco artists did not leave Spain they would starve to death. You think it will be that way because people don't like it. And it is not true. People do like flamenco. In Barcelona we were four weeks and there were full in all of them and three years ago we did a hundred functions in a row in Madrid. We continue where we are for the Spanish public. We do a strong tour outside Spain, but also a long season in Barcelona and Madrid; and the public always responds. What do you enjoy most: rehearsals or the stage? I am enjoying it. The moment of creation seems to me a beauty. You think the stage is the most because of the magic of the live show, but I also like the studio. What is left of that girl who won the Young People Award in Spanish Television in 1989? Well, a lot: the illusion, the desire and the nerves. Did you imagine that your future would be like this? No, I could not imagine anything, nor enter the theaters that I have entered, nor my son, nor the beautiful things that happen to me ... for that I am grateful; I thank God, my parents and my teachers. I don't keep a love or thank you and I take the stage to do it. I leave my soul and I'm so real that I appreciate all the love I receive. I am very lucky. The dancers from before finished the show and were going to have dinner for their families. It's not like that anymore. The situation of women in general has changed and in flamenco, too. Not long ago, there were wonderful artists who did not go on tour because they were the ones who put dinner or washing machines at home. Today these artists can put the washing machine themselves or their husbands or find someone to do it. With the woman, we know that much remains, but we have advanced a lot too. Is the woman in the place she deserves in flamenco? Now, yes. Artists are measured by their values, regardless of whether they are male or female. I am the head of a beastly team and I have never encountered nor looks ... Yes I know of other companions who have been able to find it, but my life is like that. It has been Juana the crazy, La Peña, Carmen, Mariana Pineda, what will be her next character? Flamenco helps you dream about the characters and brings you something from you that you would never have discovered. Summer is time for ... Everything. I love summer; I'm hot I love the sea, the street ... It is time to dance, to rest, to be with your family, to go crazy ... and to have a good nap. All of our August respondents are taking a nap to get in ' eleven rod shirt 'with THE WORLD. I love the nap. I'm lucky to have a lot of strength and I don't stop; My brother-in-law often tells me that I am going to kill them because I am very curious and I go all day from top to bottom. But a good nap is blessed glory!
