In the Samstyret's new action program presented yesterday, the section on culture and leisure states that:

"When art is purchased by the municipality, timeless and classic art that expresses and harmonizes with the municipality's history, local identity and physically built environment will be put before challenging contemporary art."

This is something that the hobbyist and leftist Alexandra Melander in Sölvesborg has reacted to.

- I don't mind if they want to buy timeless classical art, but they seem so provoked by what they call challenging contemporary art and that it would be dangerous. What was seen as challenging contemporary art in the past is probably what we consider to be classic works today. Art is there to get people thinking, thinking and sometimes shaking people a bit, she says.

In response to Samstyret's action program, Alexandra Melander has painted a provocative work of art that she now offers the municipality to buy for SEK 20,000.

M-leader: "Unnecessary painting"

The painting is associated with the so-called "group sex image" published by Emilie Pilthammar (M) at the end of May and which forced the municipal council to resign.

- It's a shame if there is only one kind of art that can fit in the public space. We have had a very rich cultural life in Sölvesborg and I am afraid that it will not be the same way in the future, ”she says.

Councilor Paul Andersson (M) has seen the painting as Alexandra Melander and thinks it is unnecessary.

- For me, that's history now. We cannot keep on eating what has happened but we need to look ahead as I know it. But I understand what she is looking for and she is often constructive in her criticism, he says.
