In an article in Dagens Nyheter, Education Minister Anna Ekström (S) states that the plans are also about formulating today's grading criteria that many feel are long and unnecessarily complicated.

- We do not lower the requirements, but it should be much easier to understand what the students need to be able to get a certain grade, says Anna Ekström to the newspaper.

Another important part of the reform is that factual knowledge should be prioritized for students in the lower grades, while the requirements for being able to analyze should increase as students get older, says Anna Ekström

She says this is something that many teachers and parents have talked to her about.

Part of the January agreement

The government agrees with the Center Party and the Liberals to implement this reform, Ekström says.

- That means that we have a good foundation to stand on when it comes to making a change. It is inscribed in the January agreement and I feel confident that C and L think we are in complete agreement, says Anna Ekström.

In 2019, the National Agency for Education will prepare a proposal for revised course and subject plans and the plan is that they will be able to enter into force in autumn 2020 if the government approves them.
