The United States has asked the British authorities of Gibraltar to extend the detention of the Iranian oil tanker "Grace 1", while the Supreme Court was preparing to allow it to leave, and the authorities only to release the crew of the tanker and the decision.

The Gibraltar High Court received a request from the US Department of Justice to extend the detention of the tanker "Grace 1".

The Gibraltar Chronicle said the request meant that a decision on Grace's fate would be decided only later on Thursday, adding that the government had released the captain of the Iranian tanker and three officers.

Hours ago, Reuters quoted sources in Gibraltar that the authorities there will not request renewal of the detention order of the Iranian oil ship "Grace 1", and that it will be allowed to leave based on the decision of the court today, as the newspaper "The Sun" British similar statements.

Gibraltar authorities had detained "Grace 1", which carries about two million barrels of oil, in early July; on suspicion of violating the sanctions imposed by the European Union on the Syrian regime, a charge denied by the Iranian authorities.
