"The authorities in Gibraltar released the Iranian tanker Grace 1, which was detained on July 4 on suspicion that it was transporting 2.1 million barrels of crude oil to Syria in violation of EU sanctions," the statement said.

It is noted that the corresponding decision was made due to the fact that the authorities received official written assurances from the Iranian government that the ship would not unload its cargo in Syria.

At the moment, it is not known exactly when the ship will leave Gibraltar and whether the United States will officially go to court to delay its release.

Earlier, the Gibraltar authorities decided to release the captain and three crew members of the Iranian tanker Grace 1 detained in July.

On July 4, Royal Marines of the United Kingdom detained Grace 1 off the coast of Gibraltar due to the ship allegedly delivering oil to Syria.
