This was reported to reporters by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“Indeed, President Trump told Putin that Ambassador Huntsman’s resignation will follow soon,” Peskov said.

According to him, the Russian leader noted that during Huntsman’s work as an ambassador to Russia, “one of the most difficult” periods in the history of bilateral relations fell.

At the same time, Peskov added that Huntsman worked to give “some constructive characteristics” to bilateral relations.

The Kremlin said that Trump also announced the introduction of a new candidate for the post of head of the US diplomatic mission in Russia in the near future.

Earlier, the wife of the US ambassador to Russia, Mary Kay, said that Huntsman and his family would return to the United States in a month and a half.
