NEW YORK (Reuters) - A businessman close to US President Donald Trump has run a multi-million dollar campaign to turn Qatar into an opponent of the United States, The New York Times reported in an article.
Berwidi told Trump that Qatar is part of an axis of evil and has promoted both the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
He also promoted a counterterrorism force backed by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and his own intelligence company.
The newspaper said that Berwaidi exploited his closeness to the Trump administration and presented himself as a mediator in influence within the US administration, and used his influence as a business.
The UAE paid Buraidi $ 24 million, even after learning that federal agencies were investigating his activities.
